What to Expect
Nestled on a hillside, Nuthatch Retreat offers two bedrooms, a generous shower room, and an open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining space. A large patio overlooks terraced gardens and stunning scenery, with sliding doors that blur the line between indoors and out. Spiral steps lead past wildflowers and edible plants to a private lawn with a deep-soak outdoor bathtub for two and fire pit.
The interiors have a warm mid-century feel, with pieces by Heals and G-plan set off by modernist inspired fabrics, rustic ceramics and Scandi kitchen details. All accompanied by lush plants filling both the indoor and outdoor spaces. The accommodation is wheelchair accessible from the ramped entranceway through to spacious wet room, open-plan living space and out to the patio area.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a Neff hide-and-slide oven, AEG induction hob, slimline dishwasher, quality knives and excellent coffee-making options including a burr grinder, Aeropress, cafetière and stovetop brewer.
Essentials such as olive oil, spices, Kontext coffee and teas are provided, and the freezer is stocked with Plump Hill Farm produce available via an honesty bar. Optional extras and deliveries from trusted local producers, including cheese and charcuterie, can be arranged on request.
About Nuthatch Retreat
Nemia and Rod moved to the Forest of Dean in 2015, ready to embrace the fresh air, peace and lush green views of the area.
Having both worked in the arts and music worlds for many years, they knew they wanted to invite fellow creative folk to experience the simple joy of sitting and soaking in these views and maybe finding inspiration here and so, during the 2020/21 lockdowns, Nuthatch Retreat began to take shape. Nemia and Rod envisioned a holiday home with soul and sustainable credentials, a unique retreat that is characterful, warm and inviting.
Rod has been a video artist creating backdrops for live music and theatre for 25 years. His visuals have appeared for such acts as Paolo Nutini, Noel Gallagher, Hauschka, Lizzie Ball and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Rod sought out Studio 250 when he first heard about us as he is keen for creatives to flourish here under the canopy of trees.
